Local Business Directory
WhereToYEG
A 400+ business local directory built to help Edmontonians find what's nearby.
01 — Overview
WhereToYEG is a local Edmonton business directory that helps residents discover nearby businesses across 19 categories — restaurants, barbers, cafes, medical clinics, gyms, salons, auto repair, and more. Built and maintained by OnePoint Solutions as a community resource and local SEO asset.
02 — The Challenge
Edmonton had no independent, community-focused business directory. Google Maps exists, but it does not curate, categorize by neighbourhood, or create themed collections like "late-night eats" or "hidden gems." There was a gap for a local-first directory that people could actually browse.
03 — What We Did
The approach
Built a full Next.js directory with 404 business listings across 19 categories, all driven by markdown files — no database, no CMS overhead.
Created neighbourhood pages and curated themed collections: late-night eats, brunch spots, halal foodie tour, date night ideas, hidden gems, and more.
Added client-side fuzzy search (Fuse.js) so visitors can find businesses by name, category, or neighbourhood instantly.
Set up a "Get Listed" submission page so new businesses can request to be added, with email notifications via Resend.
